Creative Calligraphy At Home

Fancy learning calligraphy from the comfort of your own home?

I’m branching out into the world of calligraphy kits as part of my 10th business birthday celebrations, with the launch of Creative Calligraphy at Home.

If you find it difficult, for whatever reason, to attend one of my in-person workshops, I’m bringing the learning experience to your door.

Creative Calligraphy At Home Kits

There are two kits available at the moment – An Introduction to Foundational Hand and An Introduction to Copperplate.

Both kits include everything you need to get started with calligraphy, including a workbook, practice pad, broad-edge pen and calligraphy rule (Foundational) or dip pen and ink (Copperplate).

I’ve been working on the kits since the start of the year and I’ve put together a limited batch of 20 each, available for an introductory price of £30.

The first 10 Introduction to Copperplate kit orders will also receive a free tilted ink pot holder and pen rest from Keiyosa, worth £25.

Artist grant supports launch of calligraphy kits

I have produced calligraphy kits before, for arts organisation Cultural Spring and the Shipley Art gallery, during the Covid-19 pandemic.

I’ve been wanting to do my own for a while and thanks to Create North and the South Tyneside Creative Partnership, I’ve been able to test the water.

I took part in the What Now? Thrive and Grow! business development course for South Tyneside creatives at the start of the year and was successful in applying for a South Tyneside Artist Enterprise Innovation Grant.

I’ve used the grant to create the kits, with Amy Purdie giving my worksheets a glow-up and creating a belly band for my boxes to keep them on-brand.

The worksheets and belly bands were printed by South Shields-based Ice Print and Design.

I did a lot of research into the packaging and came across Tiny Box Company, which only offers recycled and eco-friendly packaging.

The materials have been purchased from a number of long-standing suppliers, including Manuscript Pen Company Ltd, Blots Pens, Penman Direct and Scribblers.

I now have an online shop thanks to Jackdaw Web Design, who takes great care of my website, and Rachel McClumpha, from RJM Photography, did my product photography.

Promising start for Creative Calligraphy at Home kits

I’ve had some lovely feedback so far from the kits – and even an endorsement on Instagram from Manuscript Pen Company Ltd!

They’ve been bought by two of my calligrafriends (Calligrability and The Inkling Studio), current students, previous workshop participants – and complete strangers!

A quarter of the kits sold in the first week of launch, which I’m delighted about.

I’m looking to into creating some video tutorials to run alongside the next batch of kits, should these ones prove popular.
