Calligraphy workshops in the North East
If you would like to give the art of beautiful writing a go yourself, Creative Calligraphy founder Angela Reed teaches calligraphy throughout the north east of England.
Regular venues include Re-Create Today in Whitley Bay, North Tyneside, From Loft to Loved in Sedgefield, County Durham, Elvet & Bailey in Durham City and Newcastle Arts Centre in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
Weekly classes are also held on Thursday and Friday mornings at Mortimer Community Centre in South Shields. If you would like to add your name to the waiting list for a place, please get in touch.
Angela is also happy to offer private workshops for individuals and groups, as well as community organisations and schools.

*SOLD OUT* Calligraphy for Beginners: The WRITE Festival 2025
Calligraphy comes from the Greek words for beauty and writing and covers a wide range of disciplines.
In this introductory session, calligrapher Angela Reed will guide you through the tools and techniques required to form a basic Foundational Hand alphabet. All materials will be provided. The workshop is suitable for beginners.
The activity is subsidised and the cost is £5 per person. Suitable for ages 16 and above.
Booking is required due to limited spaces.
The event is part of The WRITE Festival, organised by South Tyneside Libraries, which takes place throughout September.
